Modeling and Emission Inventory Staff

Dispersion Modeling Staff

Dispersion modeling staff evaluate air quality data and modeling to ensure that concentrations of air pollutants are below levels that the State and Federal governments agree protect human health and the environment and also ensure that concentrations in areas with low levels of air pollution do not deteriorate significantly.

Duties of Staff

The Modeling Section provides guidance and information to the public on technical issues. The Modeling Section addresses complex dispersion modeling issues in order to provide sound scientific input into regulatory decisions.

The Modeling Section is responsible for the performance and review of computer-based dispersion modeling in support of New Source Review, and Title V permit applications, enforcement actions, and regulatory development. The section is responsible for providing consultants with information on neighboring sources of air pollution and appropriate meteorological data for use in permit modeling analyses. The section has a great deal of interaction with industry, consultants, and citizens in providing guidance and information on ambient standards and dispersion modeling.

Emission inventory staff assist reporters with submitting emission inventories, performing quality checks ion the data, and submitting the data to EPA according to regulatory deadlines. They also evaluate EPA area source inventories for New Mexico area sources. In addition, staff compile and submit the sulfur dioxide inventory to EPA in compliance with the regional haze sulfur dioxide backstop trading program.
