NOTE: The information on this page was prepared in response to the 2011 wildfire season.These links may no longer have current content; however, some of the content on this page is still valuable for both historic and current reference.

Numerous wildfires in the region are creating large plumes of smoke across parts of New Mexico. Use the links on this page to find information on air quality data and how to protect you and your family's health when it is smoky.

Monitoring Data and Air Quality Information

  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting radiation monitoring in the region. Additional information can be found here.
  • Smoke Outlook and Monitor Locations gives the current smoke outlook, current smoke monitoring report, and a map of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) monitor locations. Click on the map to get data from the monitors.
  • New Mexico Environment Department air quality monitoring site. Go to the Maps link at the top of the page, choose New Mexico maps and the area you are interested in. Double-click on the monitoring site dot. The most recent information will then be displayed in a chart. For additional information on earlier data, click the link under the table, and fill in the chart for the data you would like to view.
  • Satguard monitoring site. This site links to monitors the U.S. Forest Service has deployed during this event. Go to the website, click on Real Time Data, then Location, and choose New Mexico. Click on the location on the map for which you would like to view data. Currently monitors are deployed by the U.S. Forest Service in Quemado and Grants.
  • The City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department posts the air quality index daily.
  • Los Alamos National Laboratory has near real-time data for particulate monitoring (PM2.5) at and data for radiation monitoring at
