Cleanup / Remediation Activities & Sites

NMED oversees the investigation and cleanup of environmental contamination in New Mexico, whether it originate from a spill, old industrial facilities, current operations, leaking underground storage tanks, or other sources. Cleanup assistance is available to communities, local and tribal governments, businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals. Today’s contaminated properties can become tomorrow’s successful redevelopment stories.

Remediation is the act or process of removing contamination from the soil, groundwater, or other medium. The term “cleanup” is commonly used in referring to remediations. Cleanup typically is used a in broader context and may refer to activities such as using speedi-dry to recover oil from a roadway, or sorbent pads to collect oil from the water’s surface.
