{"id":10,"date":"2021-06-25T17:54:59","date_gmt":"2021-06-25T17:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.env.nm.gov\/foodprogram\/exempt-food-service-worker-training\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T16:46:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T16:46:43","slug":"exempt-food-service-worker-training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.env.nm.gov\/foodprogram\/exempt-food-service-worker-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Exempt Food Service Worker Training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About The Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Food service workers and\/or volunteers who meet <strong>Food Handler Card Exemptions 1\u20133<\/strong> are <strong>not required<\/strong> to possess a valid Food Handler Card in order to prepare and serve food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exemption 1:<\/strong> Food Employees who only handle non-TCS foods are exempt, provided the permit holder (facility owner or designee) provides training and maintains record of training. <br><br><strong>Exemption 2:<\/strong> Employees or volunteers who occasionally function as Food Employees are exempt, provided the permit holder (facility owner or designee) provides training and maintains record of training. Examples include: restaurant hosts, teachers assisting with family-style dining, and nurses\/therapists assisting patients.<br><br><strong>Exemption 3<\/strong>: Food Employees, or volunteers working as Food Employees at Temporary Events, are exempted, provided that the permit holder (facility owner or designee) provides training and maintains record of training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who qualify for <strong>Exemptions 1\u20133<\/strong> <strong>must still receive training<\/strong> from their place of employment that is applicable to the food-related job duties they perform. Food employee&#8217;s must complete entity&#8217;s approved training program at least every three years. Exemption is only valid during the food employee&#8217;s time of employment with entity that administered the training.
