Before joining the New Mexico Environment Department in 2019, Maddy worked as a newspaper reporter. She started her career at the Carlsbad Current-Argus covering the oil and natural gas industry, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, I&W/Carlsbad brine well, and other environmental issues across New Mexico. She continued covering the environment, as well as the state’s military bases and Sandia National Laboratories, after moving on to the Albuquerque Journal.

Maddy is an Illinois native and graduated from Illinois State University in Normal. She worked for The Pantagraph newspaper in Bloomington, Illinois, before moving to Carlsbad.

In addition to a passion for communications, Maddy also enjoys hiking, skiing, studying Spanish and playing with her dog, Clarice.
