The following are produced water pilot projects that are currently active or have been completed in New Mexico. Please see the Guidelines and Forms<\/strong> page for information specific to each document. Each pilot project is required to submit proposed projects to the NM PWRC and any relevant regulatory authorities for review, such as the OCD, BLM, NM State Land Office or tribal authorities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each pilot project can have a number of documents associated with it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attachment B<\/em> is from the NMED-NMSU MOU dated November 10, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NMED NOI<\/em> (Notice of Intent to Discharge) was instituted January 25, 2023. Pilots conducted before the NOI did not have to complete this document. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some companies submitted a Proposa<\/em>l for their pilot project, and this is attached as a Proposal<\/em>. Some of the proposals were submitted before the NOI process was instituted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a pilot project is determined to not have an intent to discharge it is issued a “No Discharge Permit (DP) Required<\/em> ” letter from the NMED. It is important for a company to determine which agency has jurisdiction over a produced water pilot project. Again, please see the jurisdiction matrix in the NMED Guidelines and Forms, as referenced above. All pilot projects must be conducted in a closed loop system with no discharge to the environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some pilot projects are completed. If a final report is available, it is attached as a Final Report<\/em>. Final reports for pilot projects can also be found on the PWRC webpage under the Research tab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NMED produced water staff are actively trying to fill in any gaps in data for the pilot projects, and will update the page as data is submitted to us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
