If you are on public water, check system reports for PFAS results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-left wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/cloud.env.nm.gov\/resources\/_translator.php\/HKA~sl~mnAhFiTd2yWeBAialqR+PaKNAPF7wjoS6S+jPh1b7n7V6Ekd54r6mpy0X0+n8He1EyjJcpVVY03YyHQDzUF0TQtxZNvL0BsoueHja3prA8CO5zrfMQ==.pdf\">Find a Certified Lab<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMED is helping residents reduce exposure to PFAS by offering free private well testing and water solutions in two New Mexico areas with known PFAS concerns: La Cienega\/La Cieneguilla communities in Santa Fe County and Curry County near Cannon Air Force Base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t live in one of these communities but are still interested in installing a water filter, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has more information on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2024-04\/water-filter-fact-sheet.pdf\">how to select the right one for your home<\/a> (PDF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La Cienega and La Cieneguilla: free well testing and home PFAS filters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NMED is offering free private well water testing and free home water filters for residents of La Cieneguilla and La Cienega after a recent report identified a widespread PFAS plume in local groundwater west of the Santa Fe Regional Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-750 alignright\" style=\"width: 300px;float:right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.env.nm.gov\/pfas\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2026\/02\/16DEC25-PFAS-install-sediment-filter-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\">The report found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>About one in three parcels showed PFAS contamination in underlying groundwater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>169 parcels showed PFAS contamination above EPA drinking water standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total PFAS levels measured as high as 800 parts per trillion (ppt), or 200 times the drinking water standard for PFOA and PFOS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Residents interested in free testing and filter installation can contact:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrew Hautzinger<br>Water Protection Division, Special Projects Coordinator<br>(505) 469-9064 |&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:andrew.hautzinger@env.nm.gov\"><strong>andrew.hautzinger@env.nm.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to expect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NMED will coordinate private well sampling\/testing for PFAS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If results indicate PFAS above drinking water standards, an NMED contractor will install a home filtration system at no cost to the resident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What NMED is doing next<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMED continues investigating the source of contamination and responsible parties, while evaluating options for long-term groundwater cleanup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Curry County: connecting families to clean drinking water and installing PFAS filters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PFAS contamination in Curry County is strongly associated with historic use of PFAS-containing firefighting foam near Cannon Air Force Base, which has contributed to a groundwater plume extending off base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clean water connections for private well owners (Curry County)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMED selected EPCOR for a project to connect approximately 100 private well owners in Curry County to clean drinking water by extending EPCOR\u2019s existing water system east of Cannon Air Force Base.
