Public Hearing for Renewal and Modification of the Corralitos Regional Landfill Permit

The New Mexico Environment Department will hold a public hearing to consider the matter of the application by South Central Solid Waste Authority for renewal and modification of the Corralitos Regional Landfill permit.  The applicant is seeking to renew the existing solid waste facility permit and obtain a permit modification for lateral and vertical expansion and acceptance of additional special wastes. 

Hearing Date:  Thursday, May 28, 2015

Time:  5:30 p.m.             

Location:  Las Cruces Utilities Board Room, 680 N. Motel Blvd., Las Cruces, NM  

Public comment will be taken starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th and as additionally determined by the Hearing Officer.  The hearing may continue on the following day(s) as determined by the Hearing Officer.  In lieu of verbal public comments, written statements may be submitted for the record at, or prior to, the hearing.

Now Accepting Application for Second Round of RAID Tire Grants; Nearly $467,000 Available

The New Mexico Environment Department is now accepting applications for a second application period for Recycling and Illegal Dumping Grants for scrap tire abatement, management, and education projects as well as projects that stimulate the recycled/reused scrap tire market. Funds totaling $466,918 are available to eligible entities. In an effort to receive proposals for significantly impactful projects, we are seeking applications for projects that will incur more than $100,000 in expenses.

The Recycling and Illegal Dumping Alliance is prioritizing:

Large scrap tire dump cleanups

  • Major amnesty events
  • Projects/purchases resulting in regional management of scrap tires
  • Projects utilizing rubberized asphalt (The grant fund may be used to make rubberized asphalt 10% less expensive than conventional paving products.)
  • Projects utilizing crumb rubber products
