With assistance from independent third-party consultants, NMED and EMNRD have completed a series of reports that evaluate the state’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all sectors of the economy. The state is using these reports to help track progress toward its GHG emissions reduction goals.
New Mexico GHG Emissions Inventory Reports and Data Files:
Inventory Report | Inventory Year(s) | Sector | Inventory Data File | Forecast Data File | Notes |
New Mexico Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory (2021) and Forecast (2030-2050), December 2024, E3 | 2021; 2005 baseline | Economy-wide | 2021 NM GHG Inventory (E3, 2024) | 2030-2050 NM GHG forecast (E3, 2024) | Methods were updated to reflect best practices and new data were incorporated. Results therefore cannot be directly compared to 2018 inventory results. Report includes updated 2005 baseline emissions and 2030-2050 projections that supersede values presented with 2018 inventory. |
New Mexico Oil and Gas Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory for Year 2020, August 2022, ERG | 2020 | Oil & gas | 2020 Oil and Gas emissions inventory (ERG, 2022) | N/A | Results for 2020 were scaled to 2021 by E3 for the 2021 economy-wide GHG emissions inventory. |
New Mexico Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory (2018) and Forecast (2030-2050), October 2020, E3 | 2018; 2005 baseline | Economy-wide | 2005 and 2018 GHG inventory (E3, 2020) | 2030-2050 GHG forecast (E3, 2020) | The methods and data used for this inventory were updated for subsequent GHG emissions inventories, and therefore the results cannot be directly compared to those in later inventories. |
New Mexico Oil and Gas Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory for Year 2005, December 2024, ERG | 2005 | Oil & gas | 2005 Oil and Gas Emissions Inventory (ERG, 2024) | 2025 and 2030 Oil and Gas emissions projections (ERG, 2024) | The methods used by ERG to develop the 2020 calendar year oil & gas GHG emissions inventory were used to develop a revised 2005 baseline oil & gas inventory. These values supersede the oil & gas sector results presented in the 2018 E3 emissions inventory. |
