The New Mexico Environment Department’s commitment to continuous digital accessibility improvement efforts
The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) is committed to ensuring all electronic and information technology on NMED websites is accessible to individuals with disabilities by meeting or exceeding the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d), as amended in 1998.
Section 508 is a federal law that requires federally funded agencies to provide individuals with disabilities access to electronic and information technology and digital data comparable to those who do not have disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.
The Section 508 standards are the technical requirements and criteria that are used to measure conformance within this law. More information on Section 508 and the technical standards can be found at Section508.gov.
Our continuous accessibility efforts help ensure conformity to Section 508 and the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0, level AA criteria. These guidelines help make web content accessible to users with sensory, cognitive, and other disabilities of all kinds, ensuring no individual is limited in access to our digital services and technology.
These cross-agency technical and functional efforts work toward making all NMED websites as accessible as possible. NMED welcomes comments to improve all accessibility for all digital services for users with disabilities.
