What We Do
We license and regulate over 2,000 radiation machine facilities statewide, covering diverse applications in healthcare, industry, and research. These include:
- Medical X-ray machines
- Particle accelerators
- X-ray radiography for material testing
Facilities are inspected regularly to ensure radiation exposure levels remain within legal limits and are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
Do You Need a Radiation Machine Registration?
A “radiation machine” refers to any device capable of producing radiation, excluding those emitting radiation solely from radioactive materials. If your facility uses such machines, registration is required under New Mexico Radiation Protection Regulations (20.3 NMAC).
Registrants must maintain relevant parts of the NMAC regulations, which can be found on our Regulations Page.

Important: Due to high demand, we’re temporarily extending registration expiration dates for facilities with pending renewal applications. If you’ve submitted your renewal, your current registration remains valid until we process your application.
