The Hazardous Waste Bureau ensures that hazardous waste is managed and contaminated sites are cleaned up in a manner that is protective of human health and the environment.
This is accomplished through:
- Providing regulatory oversight through permitting;
- Providing technical guidance to New Mexico hazardous waste generators and treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs);
- Conducting inspections as required by the New Mexico Hazardous Waste Act and regulations promulgated under the Act.
- Responding to hazardous waste spills and releases and incidents involving abandoned hazardous substances.
