Minimum Examination Requirements for Certification

Applicants for All UOCP Exams must:

  • Submit high school diploma as proof of graduation from high school or successful completion of a general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Submit documentation to meet the minimum required years of experience and training credits as outlined in the table below.
  • Submit a completed exam application to the Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP).
  • Submit copies of training completion certificates for any credits not identified in the database.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the written examination for the level of certification being sought before becoming certified.
  • Certifications levels and fees for each exam are listed in the table below.
  • Exam applications and payments will continue to be accepted by mail to address below. ALL Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

NEW Exam Electronic Notifications via Emails!

Effective February 2021, the Utility Operator Certification Program (UOCP) has implemented a NEW  method for delivery of automated communications to NM Operators via email.

  • Upon receipt of exam data from ABC Testing on the 8th of the following month, we will prepare Fail Notices and PASS packets sent to you within 2-3 weeks. 
  • Operators will receive electronic copies of new certificates and ID cards sent via email to the address on file; hard copies will no longer be mailed.
  • Please also check your ‘Junk or Spam’ email for delivery from UOCP.Certification.

NOTE:  Immediately results are given upon completion of computer-based exams and scores along with mastery reports are also emailed to you. No results will be given by phone. You may also track exam results on the Operator Look-up; contact Nile Carver at nile.carver@state.nm.us for access.


Experience & Requirements:

Experience is defined in the Utility Operator Certification Regulation as actual work experience, full or part time, as an operator in the fields of public water or public wastewater treatment.
