Emergency Response Training & Exercises

What This Program is About

The WIPP Emergency Response Training Program works in conjunction with the following agencies to provide emergency response training to prepare New Mexico communities to respond to hazardous materials transportation accidents, including those involving shipments to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP):

Environment Department

Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department

Department of Public Safety (DPS)

Department of Health

State Fire Marshall’s Office

Highway and Transportation Department

This program assists by providing that portion pertaining to radiation fundamentals and radiation protection response. The radiological training module has been modified to include WIPP-specific emergency response information and can be presented free-of-charge in New Mexico communities as part of a progressive train-up program.
