Public Comment Period Extended – The public comment period for the Sandia National Laboratories’ Second Five-Year Report for the Mixed Waste Landfill has been extended. The public comment period began on June 14, 2024, and was initially to end on August 13, 2024. The public comment period has been extended an additional 30 days and will end on September 10, 2024.

NMED received a Class 2 Permit Modification Request on March 29, 2023. The modification would be to plug and abandon MWL-MW4 and modify the LTMMP to remove requirements to take groundwater elevation measurements from MWL-MW4.

Corrective Action Complete for the Mixed Waste Landfill

February 11, 2013 – NMED held a public comment period that ended on February 11, 2013. The initial comment period on the LTMMP began on September 14, 2012 and was scheduled to end on November 13, 2012. Requests for extending the comment period were received by the Environment Department and the Secretary granted an extension of an additional 30 days until December 13, 2012. In response to additional requests to extend the comment period, the Secretary granted an additional 60 days until February 11, 2013. The public comment period occurred for 150 days.

A public dialogue meeting was held on October 16, 2012 at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 7505 Kathryn SE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87108. The meeting started at 5:30 p.m. and concluded at 7:45 p.m.

February 6, 2013 – NMED Presentation at the Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Water Protection Advisory Board public forum on the Sandia National Laboratories’ Mixed Waste Landfill. The meeting was held at the Veteran’s Memorial Museum in Albuquerque from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Public Comment Period Extended – The Secretary extended the public comment period for the March 23, 2012 Long-Term Monitoring and Maintenance Plan. The public comment period began on September 14, 2012 and was initially to end on November 13, 2012. The public comment period was initially extended an additional 30 days and was extended for 60 additional days. The public comment period ended on February 11, 2013.
